Shortly after tip-off,
the end result was never in doubt, as Boston outhustled
and outplayed the overmatched Lakers. Kobe Bryant failed
to take over the game, scoring a quiet 22 points, and
in the process officially put an end to the Jordan comparisons.
So as Kobe and his Lakers look towards
the summer thinking what could’ve been, the Celtics
now look forward to plenty of champagne and a victory
parade that was a long time coming for many of their
veteran players. As KG was interviewed after the game,
he let out a ferocious roar, and you couldn’t
help but think he was letting out 13 years of frustration.
The Big 3 have now forever altered their legacy, finally
delivering the missing piece of the puzzle that represents
their NBA careers. The epic transformation is now complete,
going from last place to first place in a single season.
After so many storylines during the
year, the original storyline resurfaced to put the finishing
touches on the 2007-2008 NBA season; the dramatic revival
of the Boston Celtics. The team’s GM Danny Ainge
stood courtside as the green and white streamers fell
onto the court, enjoying the fruits of his labour after
pulling off the improbable offseason trades to acquire
both Allen and Garnett. There were so many contributors
to championship number 17, from the coaches to Ainge
to the deep player roster, symbolizing what the Celtics
have preached all season: teamwork. Each star player
was willing to sacrifice individual statistics for the
good of the team. Well that sacrifice has certainly
paid off, and Doc Rivers needn’t bother drying
off, as the champagne bottles are about to explode.
