Hoop City U is the only NBL accredited development program in the Country and is delivered within a purpose-built state-of-the art training facility.

HOOP CITY U INTRODUCTION

The Hoop City U Development Program is separated into five levels.

The levels are Spalding Little Hoopers, Prep, Silver, Gold and Pro-Ready. Find out more information on each level below:

Spalding Little Hoopers

HoopCity U Spalding Little Hoopers is for the early hoopers aged 4-7 years old.

Prep

Hoop City U Prep is our Introductory level for ages 7-11.

Prep classes are tailored for athletes just starting on their basketball journey. Learn the basics of basketball from dribbling, shooting form, passing, team work. Our expert coaches will ensure you develop your basic fundamental skills.

Silver

Hoop City U Silver is for Junior Development aged 11-16.

Silver classes are designed for athletes that have a good foundation of basic basketball skills. This class will include combo moves, shooting drills, timing and spacing concepts along with finishing moves.

Gold

Hoop City U Gold is for Elite Talent.

Gold classes are invite-only for ages 14-17, and they have been created by Australian and NBL Coaches to take athletes to the next level. Programs and coaching covering a variety of individual and team concepts. Our emphasis is on purposeful and unique teaching, with a strong attention on quality repetitions tailored for the individual.

Pro-Ready

Hoop City U Pro-Ready is for aspiring NBL/WNBL/NBL1 and college athletes (Ages 17+). It includes, x3 NBL team-focused scrimmages per week (90 mins), a full S&C program (x3 S&C sessions designed by NBL-level staff), x4 Shooting Bay sessions, x4 Dribbling bay sessions, combine tests, filmed sessions and more.

Development program

The Program is designed for athletes who have a strong desire to raise their game and reach their maximum potential.

The Hoop City Development Program, ‘Hoop City U’ has been created by Australian and NBL Coaches to develop tomorrow’s elite basketball players and provide pathways and access to, the NBL and other elite programs and teams both in Australian and abroad.

The program is designed in tiers:

  • Spalding Little Hoopers - Ages 4-7
  • Prep - Introductory (Ages 7-10)
  • Silver - Junior Development (Ages 11-16)
  • Gold - Elite Talent, invite only (Ages 14-17)
  • Pro Ready - Aspiring professional athletes (Ages 17+)

Hoop City U is a holistic development program that strives to develop all-round athletes and individuals by incorporating:

  • Offensive and Defensive Skill Development
  • Basketball IQ Development
  • Strength and Conditioning (on-site)
  • Well-being (Gold only)

Combine testing is held three times per annum for Hoop City U Gold. This physical and on court basketball testing is aligned with the NBL Next Gen and NBA Combines.

Our NBL partnership allows us to facilitate the transfer of data gathered from our testing to the League and Clubs ensuring maximum exposure for our athletes.

The program recently achieved a significant milestone in early 2023 when Campbell Blogg became the first athlete through the program to sign a professional contract. This was with Melbourne United of the NBL, as a Development Player.

Luke Kendall

Program Development Manager

Luke Kendall is a former-professional basketball player and coach in the National Basketball League (NBL).

He played for several teams in Australia across the NBL (Sydney Kings - NBL Champions 2005, Perth Wildcats, Melbourne Tigers and Gold Coast Blaze).

Kendall's notable achievements include being a part of the Australian national team (representing his country in international competitions from 2004 to 2008), 2006 Commonwealth Gold Medal and 2006 World Championships.

Post-playing career, Luke's contributions to the world of basketball continued in the form of coaching. He began as Head Coach of the Sydney Comets in NSW (NBL1 Champions in 2015).

Since then, Luke has spent time with a number of high-profile NBL basketball clubs including the Sydney Kings from 2016-2019 and the South-East Melbourne Phoenix from 2019-2022, both as an Assistant Coach. He most recently was a guest coach for the Los Angeles Clippers at the 2002 NBA Summer League.

Current days, Luke has led the creation of 'Hoop City U', the only NBL-Accredited Development Program in Australia. Founded in 2020, the 'Hoop City U' Development Program has gone from strength-to-strength across all Hoop City locations.
